Watch the Keck Observatory – Time-lapse Day and Night Sky Meditation.
Clouds pass through the air and stars spin across the sky as an entire day is collapsed into a mater of seconds. This cosmic video features 100 days of spectacular Hawaiian day and night skies as seen from the W. M. Keck Observatory Cloud Cam, which records time lapse footage every night, from dusk until dawn. Located atop the 13,796-foot summit of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii, the observatory’s camera points to one of the best astronomical views on Earth. There are no nearby mountain ranges to roil the upper atmosphere, few city lights pollute the sky, and for most of the year, the atmosphere is clear, calm, and dry. Every now and then nature does put on a show; powerful bolts of lightning, snow storms, and moon bows are among the phenomena captured by Keck Observatory’s Cloud Cam. This meditation is set to an ambient minimalistic track with layered nature sounds that is sure to relax.
