1999 Toyota Camry OIL CHANGE – Sludge/Gel Prevention
These Toyotas have problems with engine oil gelling or sludge. The basic method of prevention shown here is an OIL CHANGE with 3.8 qts. of Mobil 1 synthetic oil (~$25 @Walmart) Do a google search on the engine oil gelling/sludge issue and you’ll be amazed at the issues these so-called “low maintenance” Toyotas have. Actually, they are GREAT cars with few issues except this one. I’ve gotten my 99 Camry with the 5S-FE engine (CA edition) to over 160,000 miles with no huge mechanical issues. However, I have been very diligent about doing synthetic oil changes every 5,000 miles. What do you guys think? Am I doing the right maintenance schedule for oil changes?
