Side Lever steam engine
This video shows how I cut a curve in the .5 x .5 inch piston valve body to match the curve of the outside of the cylinder. A scrap steel rod of .999 inch OD was used to make a boring bar mounted in the Myford Lathe. The brass was held in a vice on the cross slide of the lathe. The boring bar cutter was made from a 3/16 inch tool steel with a set screw to hold it in place, which also allowed for adjustment to cut the correct diameter curve. The idea for the set up came from one of Keith Fenner’s videos.
