Yamaha WR250R/X Cargo Rack Installation Instructions
Tools Needed include:
10mm Wrench
13mm Wrench
8mm Socket
10mm Socket
13mm Socket
4mm Allen Wrench
Socket Driver
Electric Drill
5/8″ Drill Bit
STEP 1: REMOVE THE SEAT
Remove the seat with an 8mm Socket. Once you’ve removed the bolts, apply slight pressure on the seat to slide it out.
There are two other bolts that hold the fender on, remove those too.
You will then want to prepare the rear fender to be drilled for the rack spacers. There are two holes in the Yamaha WR250R subframe that line up with where the spacers go. Mark the center holes on the fender with a pen. Use a ruler to make sure that the distance between the two marks lines up with the width of the two holes in the sub-frame.
With a 5/8″ bit, drill the two holes. The spacers are actually slightly larger than 5/8″. But, you want them to fit snugly in the holes. As such, once you’ve drilled the initial holes, gently work the drill around so that the holes are slightly larger than 5/8″. Continue checking with the spacers as you enlargen the hole until the diameter allows the spacers to fit snugly in the fender.
Once the hole is drilled, put the fender back on the machine. Notice the tab in the rear of the fender that is designed to properly secure the fender to the motorcycle.
To mount the fender back on the motorcycle, get the kit with the shorter 10mm hex head bolts. Slide a washer over the bolts and then screw them in approximately half way. These two bolts will secure the fender back to the Yamaha WR250R motorcycle.
STEP 2: INSTALL THE FRONT MOUNTING BRACKET
Slide the front mounting bracket between the sub-frame reinforcement. Take the shorter spacers and slide them over the bolts so they set between the sub-frame and the mounting bracket. With the 10mm hex head bolts sticking out, slide the bolts through the slotted holes in the bracket.
Take the nylock locking nuts and two more washers and tighten the bracket so it’s snugly in place, but has just enough play to adjust and move around.
STEP 3: INSTALL THE RACK
Slide the longer spacers into the pre-drilled holes in the fender. Get the longer 4mm button head cap screws and place the Yamaha WR250R Rack on the motorcycle. Slide the 4mm button head cap screws through the holes and screw them in so the rack is snug, but still has a little play to adjust and move around.
Slide the 13mm Hex Head bolts with a washer into the side holes to secure the front mounting bracket to the Yamaha WR250R Cargo Rack. On the opposite side, slide another washer and nylock locking nut to over the bolt to secure the other end. ‘
Once again, snug up these bolts, but allow just enough play to adjust the rack.
TIME TO TIGHTEN ALL THE BOLTS
Tighten up all the bolts in the same order that you installed the rack. This means the first two bolts you’ll want to tighten are the 10mm hex head bolts that keep the fender on and are used to mount the front mounting bracket. Make sure the short spacers used with this bracket surround the nuts that are welded onto the motorcycle sub-frame. Sometimes the spacer may get hung up on the bolt and not completely clear the bolt.
Next you’ll want to tighten the 4mm button head cap screws. Move the cargo rack around a little to make sure these two bolts are as tight as possible.
Lastly, tighten the side bolts with 13mm Socket and wrench. You will really want to crank down on these bolts to make sure the Yamaha WR250R/X cargo rack is completely secure to the motorcycle.
STEP 5: REPLACE THE SEAT
The last thing you’ll need to do is replace the seat back on to your Yamaha WR250R motorcycle. Simply slide the seat back onto the motorcycle and then secure it with the original 8mm factory bolts.
The elegant thing about the IMMIX Racing Yamaha WR250R Cargo Rack design is it has a cut out that matches the shape of the rear of the seat. This makes it really easy to remove the seat whenever you’re out on the trail and need to get underneath your machine.
